About Us
Fasa University of Medical Sciences was established in 1975 as Fasa Medical School, receiving official approval from the Ministry of Science and the World Health Organization. Situated on over 70 hectares of endowed land in Fasa County, the university began its mission to train community-oriented physicians through an innovative program focused on preventive medicine and serving underserved populations.
Founded by Professor Hossein Ali Ronaghi—a pioneer of social medicine in Iran and a nephrology specialist—the university has grown significantly over the decades (Prof. Ronaghi interview). Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, it merged with the Higher School of Nursing and later became part of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. In 2007, it gained independence as Fasa University of Medical Sciences.
Today, the university offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, including clinical specialty residencies. It is recognized as a leading research institution in southwestern Iran, with strong contributions to advancing medical knowledge and addressing public health challenges, especially in disease prevention.
Fasa University operates three specialized hospitals, a prominent research center, and a health innovation incubator supporting successful knowledge-based companies. The university has produced a distinguished body of alumni who have made significant contributions to Iran’s medical and allied health sectors and, in many cases, to international scientific communities as well.
Despite its relatively small faculty size, Fasa University ranks highly in research productivity nationwide, with an exceptional rate of scientific publications per faculty member. The university’s robust research infrastructure has positioned it as a pivotal player in advancing scientific frontiers and addressing critical public health challenges. In particular, it has demonstrated substantial impact in the domains of disease prevention, the control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and the development of community-based healthcare models. By integrating academic rigor with a deep commitment to social responsibility,
